Chaughadia Muhurt connotes the matrix of auspicious and inauspicious time segment within the 12 hour time-frame. Calculation of the chaughadia Muhurt is based on the five basic components of PANCHANG i.e. lunar calendar: i) days of the week, ii) the lunar days (including the two lunar phases), iii) Nakshatras, iv)Yogs and v) Karanas.
The time period between the sun rise and sun set has eight muhurtas and; the time period from the sun set to sun rise in the next morning also has eight muhurts. They are: i) Uddeg, ii) Char or chal, iii) Laav, iv) Amrit, v) Kaal, vi) Suuv, vii) Rog, and viii) the same muhurt with which the day or the night begins with. The time span of each muhurt is equal i.e. 90 minutes.
Of thses muhurts, the Laav, Amrit and Suuv muhurtas are considerd very auspicious or propitious for starting all mangalik activities and the Uddeg, Kaal and Rog are unauspicious for beginning anything good. The Chara or Chal is considered as neutral or neither good nor bad for starting a new work.
However, a section of scholars opine that the ‘Char’ muhurt is very good for buying a vehicle, starting new shop or a house. The other three: Amrit, Suuv, and Luuv are considered as very good for beginning all sorts of undertakings of positive nature (Suuv karyas). Here, it is worthy to note that ‘the Gulik kaal’ always correlates one of the subh (auspicious) chaughadiya muhurtas. The following are the chaughadiya tables:

To easily remember the serial order of the muhurts for the days, a mnemonic of 7 alphabets can be devised as ‘UCLA-KSR.’ Here, U= Uddeg, C= Chal, L= Laav, A= Amrit, K=Kaal, S= Suv, R= Rog.
Note: – 1) The 1st and 8th Muhurts are always same for all the week days and nights. 2) The muhurts begin from the first alphabet (U) of the mnemonic on Sunday and for Tuesday; the first muhurt begins from the 4th muhurt of the previous day i.e. Monday and then for 2nd to 8th follows the mnemonic and for the rest of the days the same rule is followed.
