No.3: – Ghat Tithis: – The equivalent meaning of ‘ghat tithi’ is ‘afflicted tithi.’ Conducting auspicious activities and setting out for an outbound journey is prohibited during the ghat tithis. The ghata tithis happen to occur as and when the the Nanda tithis (1/6/11/16/21/26) fall in the zodiac signs of Aries and Scorpio; the Bhadra tithis (2/7/12/17/22/27) fall in the sign of Gemini and Cancer; the Jaya tithis (3/8/13/18/23/28) fall in the Leo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius signs; the Rickta tiithis (4/9/14/19/24/29) fall in the Libra and Capricorn signs; and the Purna tithis (5/10/15/20/25/30) fall in the Taurus, Virgo, and Pisces signs.

No.4:Mala mash and Khshya mash: – The 30 tithis from the sukla Pratipada (the following day of the New Moon/the waxing phases of the moon) to the New moon and the 30 tithis from Krishna Pratipada (the following day of the Full Moon/ the waning phases of the moon) are called the Mukhya Chandra Mash (Primary or Main lunar month) and the Gauna Chandra Mash (Secondary lunar month) respectively.

Generally, the transition of the sun from one sign to another sign of the zodiac takes place during the period of the Mukhya Chandra mash (month). But twice in a 5 year period, the sun does not transit into the next sign during the period of Mukhya Chandra Mash and, this Mash (month) is known as the Mala mash.

On the contrary, when the Sun transits into the next signs twice in a lunar month this month is called the Khshayaya Mash (month). This also happens twice in a 5 year period. Conducting religious rituals and auspicious activities are prohibited during the Malmash and Khshayayamash. These restrictions are widely practiced in Hindu culture.
