Abhijit Muhurta

The Hindu astrology believes that success in any work much depends upon the auspicious moment at which it is commenced. Muhurat is that favorable time during which the ethereal currents emitted from the planets at that particular moment generates very positive energy in the environment which helps us attain success.

The literal meaning of the word ‘Abhijit  is ‘Victorious’. So, this Muhurat is the timing at which the event, activity or project initiated ends in success.
According to
Indian Astrology, Muhurta is the most propitious moment for performing an important event or activity.

Great Astrologers and intellectuals have developed a complete Electional Astrology that guides us the influences contained in the time that are well disposed or ill disposed to and select the suitable moment for various events or activities. We call such auspicious moments of the day as shubh lagna and inauspicious moments as Ashubh Lagna.
Abhijit Muhurta is the Muhurta based on the position of the Sun in a given place. It varies from place to place.  It is calculated on the basis of the sunrise and sun set in that particular place or area.
It is an ideal Muhurat to initiate any activity except marriage or Upnayan. Journey towards the Southern direction is also prohibited during the Abhiit Muhurta.

The Abhijit Muhurat becomes more sacred and powerful during the shukla paksh, and the day that has other beneficial yogas.
This Muhurta has no dependance on Tithi, Nakshatra, Rasi or month. This Muhurta is present on everyday and its duration is normally around 48 minutes. However, on Wednesday, this Muhurat is not well disposes to any event or activity.
The calculation of the Abhijit Muhurat:- computation of the daily Abhijit Muhurt is very simple.
One just needs to know the time of Sunrise and Sunset of that place and the mid day time.

The midday time is calculated by dividing the addition of the sunrise and sunset times by 2. Normally, it is (-)24 minutes from lunar Noon time till (+)24 minutes after lunar time.
For example, if the sunrise in a particular place on a particular day is at 6:00 and the Sunset is at 18:00 then the midday time is (1800 +6:00/2=12) 12:00 noon. The formula for calculating the duration of Abhijit Muhurta is [(sunset-sunrise)/12] X 48. Now supposing the sunset time 18:00 and sunrise time 6:00, we get duration of 48 minutes muhurta.

In this case the mid time is 12 noon. Of the 48 minutes, 24 minutes before of 12:00 noon i.e. at 11:36 A.M the Abhijit Muhurta begins and continues till 24 minutes after the 12:00 i.e. 12:24.
2nd example: suppose the Sun rise and Sun set time in a particular place on a particular day is 5:30   and 6:30 or 18:30 respectively. The midday is (18:30 +5:30/2) is 12:00.
Now the duration of the Abhijit Muhurat will be of [(18:30-5:30) ÷12X48] 52 minutes. Therefore, the Abhijit Muhurat begins from 12:00 – 26=   11: 34 A.M and continues to till 12:00 +26=12:26 PM).

In a day (day and night) there are 30 Muhurats which arise in succession beginning from Brahma Murat to Rudra Muhurat. The Lorda of the Muhurats and the Constellations (Stars) are the same. They are 28 including Abhijit.
The concept of the Muhurat correlates to inhalation and exhalation cycle of a healthy man. Normally, a healthy adult inhales 360 times and exhales 360(360+360=720) times in about 45 to 50 minutes. Thus according to Vedic astrology the average respiration rate of a healthy adult is 720÷48 (mean number of Muhurt) =15 times per minutes.

In the cosmos, according to Vedic astrology, innumerable cluster of stars rise and set and are created and get destructed due to conversion of atomic and molecular energy and resultant diffusion of so created wave length of light, incredible volume of energies is created in every Muhurt. The universe is in the human.

In the same way, in our mind innumerable thoughts rise and diffuse in the form of motivation, inspiration or desperation.
Therefore, to attain success with an important event/activity/project, selection of an auspicious muhurat is almost followed in Hindu way of life.
